The Three Sisters From Adelaide
Read about the Artist, Lauren Weir, and her inspiration for the 2024 Lithuanian Days Logo.
Lauren Weir
Lauren is a mother of four and a professional artist with a studio/gallery in Port Elliot, just south of Adelaide. Lauren takes inspiration from the beauty of the local area and mixes it with her imagination to create wonderous landscape paintings that gently draw you in for a closer look. She believes her create side came from her Lithuanian nanna, an accomplished seamstress who embroided beautiful designs on to linen and clothes.

Notes on Adelaide Lithuanian Days Design
My sister, Cea-Cea Bright, sent me the details of the ALD logo competition asking me if I would be interested in entering. Cea-Cea, my gorgeous big sister, is very connected to our Lithuanian heritage and lovingly shares its traditions, studies the language and sings in the Lithuanian choir. Cea-Cea has researched our Lithuanian ancestry and painstakingly catalogued the photos from our Lithuanian mother, the late Leokadia Pentakas, she has lived in Lithuania to study the language and culture, and connected with our distant Lithuanian relatives. Cea-Cea now also provides loving care for our elderly Lithuanian uncle (Romas Pentakas).

Leokadia's three daughters, Cea-Cea, Catherine and Lauren (myself), are very close and the first image that came to mind was the three of us in a single embrace. The image developed into a design of us supporting each other, as we do every day in many ways, by placing our hands on each other's shoulders. The design grew into the idea of our grandparents holding my mother's shoulders, to my mother holding her daughter's shoulders, to Cea-Cea, Catherine and myself holding our children's shoulders. It was an image that could grow in many directions, in the direction of our Lithuanian heritage and in the direction of future generations of family and friends; a never ending chain of Lithuanians and their connections.
The logo design is simplified to represent three Lithuanian sisters who were born and currently live in the Adelaide area. We are all living interesting and abundant lives here in Adelaide and are proud of our Lithuanian heritage.

The logo is where the Adelaide sisters' unified chain begins. Each sister is represented by a colour of the Lithuanian flag and the Sturt Desert Pea wildflower represents Adelaide.
I enjoyed the process of designing this logo and feel very honoured that The Three Sisters From Adelaide design has been chosen as the ALD Logo.
